The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has chosen a nomination form to run in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Tema East parliamentary primary. The group of women known as “NPP Non-Delegates” selected the nomination form.

From July 11 through August 10, 2023, the NPP accepted nominations for its orphaned constituencies, where the party is not represented in parliament.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the 2020 parliamentary election, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, a former Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, defeated the incumbent NPP candidate, Mr. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, with 41,692 votes to 31,956 votes for the Tema East Constituency seat.

Mr. Ashitey is attempting to unseat his uncle, Mr. Odamtten, who is now in office.
