SR: Two suspected robbers shot dead at Kalba

Police in the Savannah Region have shot dead two persons suspected to be armed robbers while others are said to have escaped and are currently at large.

The shooting is said to have happended in Kalba in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region. This was said in a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service.

“Following a distress call concerning a robbery attack at Weichau, the Police, in collaboration with some community members, responded swiftly and pursued the perpetrators who were on motorcycles,” according to the statement. The suspects got into a shootout with the cops, which resulted in the deaths of the two suspects. Others, on the other hand, were able to flee via the bushes.

A COVID-19 vaccinated card carrying the name Yussif Bolii, aged 20 years, was discovered on one of the victims, while the other has yet to be recognized. The two bodies have been transported to the Damongo Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy in the meantime.

The statement continued to say that “the Sawla Police Command is in partnership with the chiefs and community members to get the remaining suspects who are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds arrested. The Police Administration applauds the collaborative efforts between the Sawla Police Command and the community members in engaging the suspects. We want to assure the people of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba that adequate security measures are being fashioned to protect them from these notorious armed robbers”.
