The Northern Regional Youth Network (NRYN) has held its annual youth congress to strengthen the organisation’s leadership structures as a force for youth development.
This year’s congress, held in Tamale in partnership with Norsaac, YELF-Ghana amongst other partners, was on the theme: “Sustainable Youth Networks for Sustainable Development”. It was attended by representatives of the NRYN drawn from 13 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region.

During the event, the newly elected Executives of the NRYN were sworn into office to steer the affairs of the organisation for the next two years. Mr Abdul-Latif Abdul-Rahman, President of NRYN, in his inaugural address, expressed concern over the dwindling interest and participation of the youth in activities and programmes geared towards their empowerment.
He called on the youth to stay motivated and participate in leadership and decision-making processes that would equip them to take up responsible positions in the country. He also called on government and other stakeholders to continue to prioritise the interest of the youth by investing in their education to ensure their holistic growth and development.
He expressed gratitude to the immediate past executives, partners and other stakeholders for steering the affairs of the organisation, and called on members to rally behind the new executive to achieve the goals of the organisation.
Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, Northern Regional Coordinating Director, whose speech was read on his behalf, reiterated the commitment of government towards youth empowerment. He said “The government has the interest of the youth at heart. It is against this background that government has strengthened the National Youth Authority by giving it the necessary legal backing and resources to effectively deliver on its mandate.”
Hajia Hafsatu Sey Sumani, Head of Programmes, Policy and Campaign at Norsaac charged the youth to eschew all forms of violence and endeavor to champion peace for development. Participants called on the new executives to discharge their duties effectively and to ensure they represented the interest of the organisation to achieve their targets.
