The limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) is progressing smoothly in the Wa Municipality with no hitches recorded so far.

At about 1348hours when the Ghana New Agency (GNA) visited the registration centre at the Wa Municipal office of the EC 33 persons had registered so far with long queues witnessed at the centre.

Mr Ben Alaglo, the Wa Municipal Director of the EC, told the GNA that the exercise started in Wa at about 0700hours, but the first registrant’s data hit the system about two hours later.

He said all machines were working smoothly and all registration materials were available for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“There is no pressure on us, the place is calm. We have all the materials available, and we have not encountered any challenges so far”, Mr Alaglo explained.

He added that the Commission had also made available a standby generator for use during the exercise to prevent disruption of the registration process in the event of power outage.

He said they had also not recorded any challenges at the registration centers at the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University and the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.

The GNA also observed that there were security personnel from the Ghana Police Service present at the registration centre to ensure an incident-free exercise.

Some of the registrants, students, at the registration centre told the GNA that the exercise was smooth, and they were satisfied with the process.
