IGP storms Zuarungu after armed robbers kill two police officers

Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, has paid a visit to the families and colleagues of two officers who died in a shoot-out with armed robbers in Zuarungu, Bolgatanga East District, Upper East Region, on Wednesday night.

Constables Emmanuel Akowuah and Adam Suley are claimed to have died while responding to a distress call about a robbery attack at the Zuarungu Market.

When the bandits saw the cops on their patrol motorcycle, they fired a shot at them, hitting the fuel tank, which exploded and erupted into flames.

Constable Adam Suley was slightly injured by the flames, according to a police incident report. The thieves are claimed to have taken away the guns of the slain cops.

IGP Akuffo Dampare, in the company of members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), visited the crime scene on Thursday morning to assess the situation.

He also visited the families of the officers and the chief of the area to commiserate with them. It was an emotional moment as fellow officers could not be consoled as they shed uncontrollable tears when the IGP visited them at post.

He assured the residents of Zuarungu and its environs of police protection.

Meanwhile, officials have put an unnamed ransom on the head of the robbers, who are perceived to be of Fulani extraction.

The sitrep announced that an intelligence-led operation to arrest the robbers has been launched
