A civil society organisation (CSO), the Institute of Leadership and Development (INSLA), has urged its allies and the media to collaborate in educating the public about the five fundamentals of a healthy diet.
It underlined the importance of limiting sugar intake, switching to unsaturated fats from saturated fats, eliminating trans-fatty acids, and limiting sodium intake while making sure salt is iodized as part of a balanced diet.
To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (2), (3), and (12), the remaining actions include increasing intake of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and other foods. They also include ensuring that free, safe drinking water is available.
During a day of orientation for CSOs, community-based organisations, and the media, the INSLA made the decision.
