All unauthorized constructions in the Bolgatanga Municipality will be removed to make room for easier access.

Some people have built buildings in prohibited locations, such as dwellings, metal manufactured containers, bathroom facilities, and places of worship. These illegal buildings might be found near high-voltage wires, streams, or road reserves.

Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister, lamented the haphazard springing up of structures in unapproved locations in July this year, and wondered “if residents can only afford bicycles and motorbikes” because many residents in the region who own cars sometimes park them nearby and trek home due to inaccessible roads leading to their places of abode.

However, the officials of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly will dismantle those illegal constructions that have been recognized.

“I have walked around the town with members of my staff and we have identified some of those roads where people have put containers and bathrooms and all that. We are planning, with the advice of the urban road engineer, to open up those roads.

If you have a bathroom, containers [at unapproved areas] we will knock them down. Some people have put mosques on those roads, we will remove them but the time hasn’t come.”

Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga announced the impending demolishing exercise at a press soiree held on Wednesday.
