Emeka Akumefule, a Nigerian rapper better known by his stage name Blaqbonez, has revealed how some artists manage to top music charts without having any genuine fans.
The rapper said that some artists that hold down the 10th to 20th spot on the Spotify and Apple Music Top Songs chart for Nigeria do it with the assistance of stream farms. The rapper is now on a media tour in the wake of the successful release of his hit song “Ice Spice.”
Blaqbonez claims that these practises fool listeners and give certain artists a false impression of popularity. Artists with little actual listenership can therefore chart in the top 20, overshadowing deserving performers who have genuinely earned their following.
