MTN MoMo to reward 4,000 subscribers

MTN MoMo, in a bid to promote digital payments in the era of COVID-19, has launched the ‘MoMo Pay & Win’ promotion to reward customers.

The reward is for those who make payments for goods and services through MoMo Merchant IDs and QR codes in the months of August and September.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr Samuel Koranteng, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday, said the points based promotion would give customers the opportunity to earn and accrue points when they make payments.

It said customers earn MoMo point for every GHC1.00 paid and payments should have been made to at least five unique Merchants ID numbers within the month to qualify for a prize.

It said at the end of each month, the top 2,000 customers who earn the most points would be declared winners.

“The 2,000 selected customers will be presented with e-cash prizes ranging from GHC50.00 to GHC10,000.00,” it said.

According to the statement, Mr. Eli Hini the General Manager for MTN Mobile Money Limited, said, “Digitization is facilitating the new- normal and at the centre stage of this is digital payments”.

The statement said the ‘MoMo Pay & Win’ promotion was launched as part of activities to celebrate MoMo month which was on the theme: “The Relevance of MoMo in a COVID 19” World.”

It is aimed at encouraging customers to adopt digital payments over physical cash which could be a source of exposure to the coronavirus.

Other activities outlined to create excitement for customers during 2020 MoMo month celebration are digital fairs and social media quizzes.

Earlier in the month, Stakeholder workshop was organised to discuss how to boost the FinTech Eco-system in a COVID -19 world.

According to the statement MTN has intensified its campaign against fraud, while MTN MoMo customers were advised to be careful of the activities of scammers.

The statement advised customers to note that MTN does not charge any money or its equivalent before prizes were redeemed; hence any request for money, recharge cards or airtime before a prize was redeemed was fraudulent.

“Calls originating from MTN on the promotion will be made through the official line 0244300000 only,” the statement stated.

MTN MoMo Month was instituted in 2012 and has for the past eight years been instrumental in driving awareness, influencing policy and deepening the use of MoMo services.

Over the years, MoMo Month celebration has contributed significantly to driving adoption and acceptance of e-money nationwide.
