An claimed police officer named Sergeant Saviour Senaya set fire to Faustina Aboba’s pub and flat in Tanzui village, a suburb of Bolgatanga, three weeks ago.

After a quarrel between him and Faustina’s sister’s daughter, Eunice, who was alleged to be his lover, the cop was accused of setting fire to Faustina’s tavern and apartment.

Eunice is in her early twenties, according to Faustina, and was dating the officer. When the police learned that Eunice had an ex-boyfriend, he became enraged and threatened to teach her a lesson, so he set fire to her apartment and tavern.

Life has been awful for Faustina and her family since the tragedy, she claimed, because deciding what to eat or sleep has been difficult.

“Now, I and my siblings including my 70-year-old mother are sleeping on the open. We don’t have anywhere to sleep. Aside from that, my landlord is on my neck, I don’t know what to do”, she said.

Six of the apartment’s rooms, including Faustina’s, were completely destroyed by fire.

Faustina said she reported the issue to the police, who promised to look into it, but she has not heard from them in about three weeks and still sees the suspect wandering around freely.

The scenario, however, has prompted Mary Aboba, Faustina’s mother, to urge on the police agency to be polite and unfavorable to the officer, while they seek justice for his actions.

Tenants of the affected apartment who were all shocked over the action of the officer questioned the police department of “delayed justice” on the said officer.

They said they are now leaving in fear as they do not know when the said officer will come and attack them again, adding that “…the apartment is now in total darkness”.

Meanwhile, police say since the incident was reported initiated an investigation to unravel the facts to understand the actions of the said officer who has been arrested and granted bail.
