A British man is facing up to six years in a Singapore jail after sneaking out of his quarantine hotel room to visit his fiancee in another.
A mask-less Nigel Skea left his room at the five-star Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore hotel on three occasions in September, according to the charge sheets.
On Monday the 52-year-old pleaded guilty to breaking the country’s coronavirus quarantine order.
The couple will be sentenced on 26 February after the then fiancee – now Skea’s wife – Agatha Maghesh Eyamalai, also pleaded guilty to one charge of aiding her partner.
They face a possible sentence of up to six years in jail and a fine of 10,000 Singapore dollars (£5,400) on each charge.
On one of the occasions, the court was told Skea climbed an emergency stairwell and entered a room that Eyamalai, 39, who was not in quarantine, had booked. They spent nine hours together.
Most travellers have to stay in an assigned hotel room or at home for 14 days after arriving in Singapore under coronavirus quarantine rules, where they receive meals and their temperatures are regularly recorded.
Prosecutors are asking that Skea be jailed for four weeks and fined 1,000 Singapore dollars (£540).
Defence lawyer Dhillon Surinder Singh, who is also representing Eyamalai, asked for a fine or a one-week jail term “to give him a slap on a wrist”.
No Briton has been jailed in Singapore for breaking coronavirus rules.
A handful have had their work passes revoked and paid fines.
