John Mahama wins in Upper East Region

Mr John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won in all the 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region in the Presidential election.

Certified results from the Electoral Commission (EC) revealed that the former President emerged victorious by 165,162 votes as he recorded 335,502 valid votes from the 518,712 total valid votes cast as against 170,340 votes obtained by his main contender, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the Binduri Constituency, where the NDC lost the seat to the NPP, Mr Mahama won with 19,126 valid votes as against President Nana Akufo-Addo who had 10,148 votes.

In the Builsa South and Builsa North Constituencies, Mr Mahama obtained 9,687 and 16,654 valid votes while President Nana Akufo-Addo recorded 5,052 and 6,931 valid votes respectively.

In the Navrongo Central and Chiana-Paga Constituencies, Mr Mahama secured 26,099 and 24,804 valid votes to emerge victorious and President Nana Akufo-Addo got 15,537 and 11,983 valid votes respectively.

The NDC’s flagbearer polled 40,315 and 12,636 valid votes in the Bolgatanga Central and Bolgatanga East constituencies to beat President Nana Akufo-Addo who had 15,349 and 5,184 valid votes respectively.

Mr Mahama recorded 24,686 votes in Talensi and 10,875 votes in Nabdam to beat Nana Akufo-Addo who recorded 9,175 and 7,421 valid votes respectively.

In the Bongo and Zebilla constituencies, the flagbearer of the NDC got 31,603 and 33,679 votes respectively while the flagbearer of the NPP had 12,593 and 15,256 valid votes respectively.

In the Bawku Central, Mr Mahama secured 27,132 votes and 20,427 votes in Pusiga while Nana Akufo-Addo got 20,409 and 12,606 valid votes respectively.

In Tempane and Garu Constituencies, the former President Mahama polled 20,660 and 17,119 votes respectively while President Akufo-Addo got 14,013 and 8,683 votes respectively.

The other Presidential candidates, Mr Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) got 3,100 votes, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), 879, Madam Akua Donkor of GFP got 832 votes and Mr Henry Herbert Lartey of the GCPP, 359.

Mr Hassan Ayariga of the APC, obtained 919 votes, Mr Percival Kofi Akpaloo of LPG, 868, Mr David Apasera of PNC, 2,890, Madam Brigitte Akosua Dzogbenuku of PPP, 685, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of NDP, 1,017 and Mr Alfred Kwame Aseidu Walker, Independent Candidate got 1,321.

The Upper East Region had 660,181 registered voters with 542,905 persons turning out to vote.

There were 518,712 valid votes cast with 24,193 rejected ballots recorded.
