2,728 SHS candidates write WASSCE in Tema Metro

A total of 2,728 final year students in the Tema Metropolis are sitting for the 2021 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The figure according to data from the Tema Metropolitan Education Director available to the Ghana News Agency, comprises 1,261 males and 1,467 females.

Out of the total, 2,487 consisting of 1,167 and 1,320 males and females respectively registered in five public schools namely OLAMS, Chemu, Tema Methodist Day, Tema Presby and Tema Manhean Senior High Schools.

The three private schools in the Tema Metropolis namely Datus International, FASCO and EXACAM on their part registered 241 candidates made up of 94 males and 147 females.

The Education Directorate noted that all examination papers for public schools would take place in their respective schools while their mates in the private schools would write theirs at the WAEC Hall.

Candidates on Monday, September 13, 2021 started the core subjects when they sat for the English Language papers one and two.

Mrs Bernice Ofori, Tema Metropolitan Education Directorate, told the Ghana News Agency that the examination was going on smoothly in the metro with no recorded incidents.

Mrs Ofori wished the candidates well and urged them to concentrate on what they have been taught as there was nothing like ‘apor’.

She also cautioned students against the use of drugs with the excuse of it helping them to learn over a longer period.

She expressed the hope that with the enormous effort put in by teachers, the metropolis performance in the exams would improve greatly over that of the previous years.
